Making The Most Of Your Antique Hunting Trip

When the antiquing bug hits, it’s time to go out and make a day of it. While every antique hound has his or her special places and private tips, there are some general truisms always apply.

Garage Sales

Yes, good bargains can still be found at garage and yard sales. Many people are convinced that there are no deals to be found anymore at your ubiquitous suburban garage sale, but the fact is there will always be thousands of collectibles in attics and basements and closets across the land that will end up on the card table in the driveway.I was looking for more information and found it here. It is merely a matter of timing, luck and perseverance to find them.

Remember, when canvassing garage and yard sales the earlier the better for the best bargains. Sometimes swinging back might get you a better deal on something that was priced too high, but chances are if it was something you recognized value in, someone else will have recognized it as well and snatched the item. Make the most of your hunting trip by mapping out sale locations beforehand. Many garage and yard sales will be announced in the local newspaper classified section, so you don’t have to waste time driving around aimlessly looking for sale signs.

Estate Sales and Auctions

Estate sales and auctions, especially in rural areas, can make a treasure hunt well worth a day trip. Such auctions and sales are usually advertised well in advance, so if you scour the local advertising shoppers for an area you have targeted, it should be quite easy to plan a productive itinerary. Some people are put off by a morbid repulsion of estate sales, not wanting to take advantage of the sad circumstance, but estate sales are where to find those true antique treasures that someone before you has held and cherished.
